Promoting Youth Mental Wellness
Patrick’s Purpose Foundation was formed in 2018 after the tragic suicide of Newport Beach resident 16-year-old Patrick Turner. Their mission is to promote mental wellness in schools and create a student-driven culture of kindness through educational programs and initiatives.
Since their inception, they have hosted several student events to promote mental wellness, as well as multiple parent forums on teen mental health. They also work with mental health professionals to provide therapy for teens who can’t afford it on their own.
A Buddy Bench is a place where a student can go to sit if he/she is feeling lonely, wants to be invited to join a playground game, has a tough family situation etc. It is a non-verbal sign for students to show that they could use a little extra kindness, which is something Patrick wished for. We have installed Buddy Benches at 7 elementary schools and 2 high schools in the Orange County area. Your participation in our program will directly support this program.
Fundraising is primarily done via their annual community walk held in the Newport Mesa area in December. The walk focuses on breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health, while celebrating the life and legacy of Patrick Turner. Please join them this year on December 16, 2023
Finally, they provide scholarships to selected high school seniors who choose to attend a vocational school or community college. To date, they have awarded $100,000 to deserving students.
